Huon Valley Mid Winter Festival 2017

If you haven't sung to an apple tree whilst banging pots and pans by firelight lately, head to the Huon Valley to celebrate the regions apple picking history and join in the ages-old tradition of wassailing - basically scaring nasties out of the orchard's cider trees to ensure a bumper autumn crop.

And if singing to the trees doesn't bob your Geeveston fanny, we've added a Friday night of feasting, craft ciders and music by the fireside to kick off the festival.

Tickets for the Huon Valley Mid-Winter Festival will be sold over two online releases and will also be available for purchase at the Apple Shed. Each ticket release will have a limited amount of tickets available so get in early to avoid missing out!

Singing to the trees

The festival is run annually by Willie Smith's at the Apple Shed and draws on the traditions of cider-producing regions of south-west England. The main event, the wassail, takes place on Saturday night and involves a ritual performed by Morris dancers from all over the country. Think fire, banging pots, singing and gunshots.

Defy the night

The festival beckons visitors from near and far with a perfect melding of irresistible local food, wine, beer and - of course - cider, warming bonfires, mesmerising folk music, dancing and storytelling.

Huon Valley Mid Winter Festival 2017

Winter lovers and experience-seekers, this one is for you. The Huon Valley Mid Winter Festival is a soulful celebration that makes the most of southern Tasmania's history, stories, and love of celebrating all things apple.

Held from the 14-16 July in the Huon Valley (south of Hobart) Willie Smith's Apple Shed will be transformed to host this incredible festival.

Picture this: A mega bonfire, amazing street performers and artists, a quirky dress up competition, and plenty of dancing by firelight.

Steeped in tradition, the pinnacle of the Huon Valley Mid Winter Festival is the wassailing - for the uninitiated, that's the ceremony where you scare bad spirits out of the orchard's cider trees to ensure a bumper autumn crop.

With a finger lickin' selection of Tassie produce on offer, we suggest you pack your stretchy pants. Our top picks: Willie Smith's Apple Cider, Spotty Dog American BBQ for some serious dude-food, and Lady Hester Donuts to satisfy your sweet tooth.
